Great Falls Hike Virginia – Oct 11

So a lot of family and reader’s blowing up my phone wondering – “Is everything ok”? Well, yeah…everything is fine. Nothing new at all on the health/Cystic Fibrosis (CF) front. I’ve just been super busy per usual and I forgot to click publish on the previous post when I was finished…so it’s been a while. My bad.

On Oct 3rd, me, Mom, and Dad drove down to the Richmond area (RVA) to see my one of my great grandmothers as we celebrated her 94th birthday. It was suppose to be at the family farm in Isle of Wight, but Hurricane Joaquin had different plans and flooded the Hampton Roads area with lots and lots of rain. Fine by us since it shaved an hour off our drive time.

Prior to the trip down south, me and Dad experienced a lot over the previous week. Someone backed into us in the parking lot at our complex. Then Dad nearly burnt down the condo when he forgot about my nebulizer and pacifiers boiling in the pot of water. Guess it was just one of those weeks. While the picture doesn’t do it justice…it was quite scary as the flame shot out of the pot and Mom grabbed me and ran out the condo while Dad fought the flames. It sent a cloud of smoke through the house so we decided to sleep at TMZ’s house for the night.

To make up for it…Dad and I tried cooking pasta for Mom later that week – with a new pot of course.

While you can’t really see them in any photo yet, I have two front bottom teeth coming in. They are razor sharp. I love standing on everything and walking around my crib and standing in the bathtub. I like to think I’m grown.

If anyone sits me down, I’ll probably be cool with it for a few minutes until I cry. I don’t like crawling and have not shown the ability to crawl yet. This means I want you to pick me up and walk me around by my arms or put me in one of those walkers (see below). Mom took me over to Madison Manor tennis court which was recently repaved and I ran around like a crazy man.

After the hurricane left with all its rain, it brought some beautiful weather so me, Mom, and Dad all went for a hike in Great Falls on the VA side.

I love the Osprey child carrier pack which Dad picked up with his REI points. Mom uses it in the morning to take me out to the car and free up her hands and Dad carries me all around town in it when he gets home in the afternoons (when he doesn’t work late and p*** off Mom). He claims we’re going to hike Old Rag soon, but I’m not sure he has it in him.

Outside of that, nothing new on the home front. The damage to the car is getting fixed this week and Dad still has plans to repaint the kitchen. He also has aspirations of climbing Old Rag with me on his back.

So I have a few appointments coming up – 9 month pediatrician appointment and Pulmonary checkup at Children’s National Medical Center with Dr. Sami, Dr. Shukla, and team. Lastly, Dad and I need to know if the below costume idea is okay…or is it too soon? Mom thinks its completely inappropriate and in poor taste.

Two weekends ago, Mom, Dad, and I headed just south of Richmond to see my great grandmothers. For my great grandmother Gillespie, it was the first time she and I have met. She was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s about ten years ago and stays at Petersburg Home for Ladies. Given the spread of germs inside nursing homes, we had to pick a day where we could spend outside in the outdoor area. Seeing as I have CF, I probably won’t be visiting her during flu and cold season. She loved holding me and thought I was so sweet. It was funny how she kept saying I had nice shoes on, but I wasn’t even wearing shoes. Haha.

Also got to meet my Great Uncle Paul for the first time.

For great grandmother Peden, it was just another really good visit in which I had my first taste of watermelon and my aunts not wanting to put me down. I refused to nap the entire time I was with them because I was having so much fun. While the four hour commute (twice as long as it should have been) wasn’t fun…the smiles it brought to my great grandmothers, aunts, and uncles sure made it worthwhile.

That same weekend, we hung out at my friend Samuel’s for brunch. You might remember him from an earlier blog post, but we’ve both gotten much bigger. He lives in Clarendon and has a nice patio which I could look down at all the people. To be honest, I could have hung out up there all day. I love watching people moving around on the ground. As you can see, I’m still waiting for my hair to grow in.

This past weekend, we hung out with another one of Mom’s friends, Justin. He and his wife have a son, Dalton who’s just about a month and half older than me. Much like Samuel, he makes me look small. Dalton can crawl and set himself up. Dad says he can’t wait for me to do those things, but mom is a little fearful that we’re not ready for all the exploring I’ll likely want to do.

While over there, Mom and Dad took notice to how Dalton eats baby food. While everything seems identical on the surface for Dalton’s and my parent’s…it’s totally not. While there, Dalton was given watermelon, puffs, baby food, milk, etc. They weren’t forced to abide by a 30 minute window bestowed upon them thanks to the Creon. And while Dalton gets to crawl into bed and pass out…I have 20 minutes of Chest PT and a nebulizer treatment awaiting me. Life is so much different for the three of us.

Not sure what’s in store for the upcoming weeks, but I hope to spend more time outside, than in the car.
